Holiday times can be difficult, stressful and sometimes so expensive for families. It was great therefore to be able to help families out with a range of events over the summer including a visit to the University Of Birmingham

Our event at the University of Birmingham was organised for families to attend the Teddy Bears Hospital event. The event organised by the College of Medical and Dental Sciences has a world famous reputation for its prestigious range of science and medical academic degree programmes.
Despite its vicinity to the local area, many families had no knowledge of the university. It was lovely to be able to take families on a tour of the famous campus buildings, view its facilities and have a picnic in its grounds.
During the visit, families were able to learn about health through play. Some of the activities included:
· Healthy eating station – families discovered what food means for our health
· Doctor’s kit station – families were able to delve into a Doctor’s toolbox and learn what they use to save lives
· Bear surgery station – families were able to help treat a big bear patient, from the inside out, as a surgeon
· Dental hygiene station – families found out how to brush their teeth properly using a huge model teeth
Throughout the event staff discussed with families how the effects of a poor diet and lack of exercise impacts on their and their children’s brain development and thinking skills.
We all had a great time and can’t wait to go back
